"Claudius rolled over. His cheeks were sunken and his skin tinged with yellow.
'Why did you do it? Why did you help me after the things I've done to you and Ben?'"
(St. John 150) This quote shows that Martine can forgive people easily. It also shows how thankful Claudius is, that Martine saved his life. Claudius is a bully in the beginning of the book, but changes after his life is saved.

"'But you could have drowned without your life jacket.' 'Yes, but i didn't.' was Ben's reply."(St John 98) This quote shows that Ben is a forgiving person. Martine didn't quite understand how Ben could forgive and forget, until she learned that Ben didn't think it was worth fighting over.
"'If you could do it all again- I mean, everything that's happened in the last couple of weeks- would you do anything differently?' Ben asked. 'Yes,' said Martine. 'I'd tell my grandmother that I love her.'" (St. John 220). This quote shows that Martine regrets telling Gwen that she hates her, when she was mad. She misses her grandmother and hopes she misses her too. The quote also shows that Ben wants to do it over again too, but for reasons we don't know.
